How did I get here?
I often ask myself this question and have to laugh a little.
How did I get to this place with these people at this time?
How did I become the wife of a preacher, a mama, and a work-from-home publicist? And now that I am here, what difference can I make in this great big world?
I’m not famous or well-known by any means.
I don’t have a brand or a book deal.
I don’t have thousands of followers on social media (and honestly half the time I want to quit all of it).
I don’t have a platform where I am able to reach millions of people or even time to properly fix my hair most days but right here, where God has placed me for this season, in this little place I call home, I have an important mission.
I am raising a child to know God’s unconditional love and to share that love with others.
“Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
– Matthew 22:37-40
Being a mama is a holy calling and you better believe we are right where God wants us. Everything we do is worth the effort and is a part of His plan. But let’s be real, do you ever find yourself wondering if all this “mama work” is helping to further the Gospel, making this world a better place?
Do the bananas you slice into tiny pieces so your 14 mth. old, who still doesn’t have any teeth, matter? What about the meals you rush to throw together after work and the multiple loads of laundry that seem to multiply before your eyes? How about the showers your forfeit so you can have a minute to yourself while everybody is still sleeping? Does it matter that you clean the toys from the floors only to watch your toddler replace them with a handful of Cheerios and a cup of milk thrown everywhere?
Yes, mama. It all matters. Every single bit of it. That is what God placed you here for.
Our ministry of motherhood is one that will impact the world. It may seem like we’re simply changing another diaper or wiping another runny nose but ladies, we’re doing something so much bigger. Let me rephrase that – God is doing something so much bigger in us and through us.
You have a mission. You have a purpose! How did you get here? God placed you here for such a time as this.
So keep on keeping on, mama. Be where you are. Do your thing. Love God and love your people. You are changing the world!
